Bernina Brand Ambassador

Bernina Brand Ambassador ! Yes, lucky me ! I also get the opportunity to write about my sewing and quilting experiences on the Bernina Corporate blog at http://blog.bernina.com/en/. How awesome is that ?!

In my younger days, I thought I could be a model. But my body rebelled and wouldn't budge beyond 'petite' at 5 feet nothing !  So my runway dreams had to run away. I did consider toothpaste ads, heh heh, but didn't really pursue. The Universe now gives me a second chance. Or is it the first? I am now a model, of sorts, putting it loosely, for no less than a World Leading brand, the awesome Bernina !  Ha, body, take that !!

The writing will put me on an international platform and get me one step closer to the book I've been thinking/dreaming of writing I guess. Speaking of which, remember the Warli quilt I presented to the Bernina owner and chairman, Mr.Ueltschi during his visit to India?

I did a small tute which got published in two prestigious publications ! Might as well do all the gloating in one post, so here are the pics..

Well, my day is made ! Hope yours will be too. Happy doing-whatever-its-you're-doing !

Flowers in my garden

Finished quilting this beauty for a client. I can't believe this is her first quilt. The stitching is so neat and the blocks, perfect.

Did lots of free motion quilting on this one after some SID around the green 'paths'; lotus buds in each of the four corners inside the squares and stippling all around them. I used the BSR, the patented Bernina Stitch Regulator, and it made the FMQ-ing so so so smooth. I must've saved boatloads in terms of effort and energy expended! And no shoulder pain ! I don't think I ever, EVER want to do FMQ without the BSR. Ever !

Finished the border with multiple wavy lines, done with a walking foot.

It has the most amazing texture and its a piece I can finally say I am proud of. Every quilt I do usually leaves me a wee bit dissatisfied, but this one, I'm pretty happy with ! :-)

Happy quilting ! Or whatevering !

Happy Birthday !

Another bloggy birthday and I am still around ! Niice ! Not very regular at posting, but then I don't beat myself up over it. I'm glad I have a blog and my very own space to rant or rave, depending on the mood :-)

No quilty post today. Just wanted to wish myself a happy birthday before I sit down with a nice glass of Christmas wine (What? Its not Christmas yet?!) and watch 'House' on TV. I kinda like him :-).

Cheers !

Quilted Pouch Making Workshop

Bangalore is becoming a second home of sorts what with lot of my quilta-sistahs based in Bangalore ! Had a fun workshop at 'Bloom & Grow' thanks to the lovely owner of the studio, Carol. This time we did a basic workshop on quilted pouch making. And had a blast, as usual ! Need proof? Take a look at the agenda...

There was some serious sewing. And some serious fun.

Some beautiful pouches were made. Proof's in the pudding..er.. pics..

There's a happy me with a happy bunch of quilters/pouch makers. Hopefully I have infected them enough to want to  come back for an advanced pouch making session sometime soon ! :-)

Happy quilting !

Stitch in the ditch aka rut

Passionate about something
.
.
Build a business around your passion
.
.
The business of keeping the business floating leaves you with no time for your passion
.
.
And before long, you are stuck in a rut !

Happens.

So I decide to get myself out of the rut I find myself in, inch by inch. Want to try out something new every day. Or at least every other day. Something tiny maybe, but something that I haven't done before or have been wanting to try for a long time. Something that won't demand huge chunks of my time. Or attention. So, kicking off PROJECT GOOTR (Get Out Of The Rut).. !

GOOTR Project #1 - Brocade clutches

Wanted to try those handles. Perfect project for the handles, but not a small enough project. I need to choose wisely :-).

GOOTR Project #2 - Fabric coil basket.

A quick, easy and satisfying project. A few friends have asked for a tute, so I see more baskets in the near future.

GOOTR Project #3 - Lines & Love

Always been fascinated with optical illusions and wanted to try my hand at a simple one. Also wanted to try this sort of binding for the longest of time. Not very happy with either. Oh well, another GOOTR project for another day :-)

 Happy GOOTRing everyone !
